GREAT WALKING WEEKEND UNDERWAY IN FALCARRAGH AND GORTAHORK

first_imgThe Tullaghobegley Heritage Walking Weekend is underway in Falcarrach and Gortahork, with this year’s theme focusing on World War I and its connections with the parish of Cloughaneely. It is estimated that as many as 50 men from the parish fought in the War, with at least 24 of those losing their lives and many being buried in Flanders in Belgium.Events got underway last night with a Historical Tour of the area, led by Seosamh O’Ceallaigh. Tonight (Friday), Tommy Francis will give a historical talk on the links between the parish and World War I at An Seanbheairic in Falcarrach at 8.0pm. The four days of activities has developed from the original ‘Turas an tSleibhe’ (Mountain Walk) which is now in its 22nd year and still forms the centrepiece of the weekend, taking place on Sunday, May 3rd. Starting at Mín an Iolair, Gaoth Dobhair, the walk retraces the old pilgrim burial route and finishes at Tullaghobegley graveyard, outside Falcarrach.Buses will depart for Mín an Iolair from the Shamrock in Falcarrach @ 12 noon and from Ostan Loch Altan in Gortahork @ 12.15 and will be available again in the evening. Before that on Saturday, there are two walks – one challenging and one leisurely – so all walkers are catered for. Both will depart from An Seanbheairic at 10.30am.Further details for all events can be found at www.anfalcarrachlecheile.com   GREAT WALKING WEEKEND UNDERWAY IN FALCARRAGH AND GORTAHORK was last modified: May 2nd, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalFalcarraghgortahorkwalking weekendlast_img read more
