A La Center man pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon to charges of vehicular homicide stemming from the deaths of two motorcyclists.David W. Moss- Van Soest, 21, was arraigned in Clark County Superior Court on two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault. He pleaded not guilty to all three charges. Judge Barbara Johnson scheduled his trial to begin Sept. 7.Moss- Van Soest was arrested following a July 3 crash that killed Steven W. Dodd, 35, and Karey Brown, 34. The La Center residents were killed just 200 feet from their home.The crash occurred at about 11:50 p.m., when Dodd and Brown were riding their motorcycles eastbound in the 1600 block of Northwest La Center Road and were struck head-on by Moss- Van Soest’s 1990 Dodge Shadow sedan, which allegedly crossed the centerline.Court documents allege Moss-Van Soest showed signs of alcohol intoxication after the crash and told deputies he shouldn’t have been driving. Moss- Van Soest and his passenger, Billy Backus, were treated for minor injuries.Deputies described Brown and Dodd as experienced riders wearing the appropriate safety gear.Brown was a 12-year employee with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. She worked as the financial investigator for the Sheriff Office’s drug task force.
