China important source for Port Stephens

first_imgThe Chinese market will continuously be “an important source market” for Port Stephens, according to the region’s tourism board, particularly after reaching record arrivals from the Asian country last year.Port Stephens Tourism announced that 15 percent more Chinese arrivals landed in Port Stephens last year compared to the prior year, spending up to $3.8 billion. The group’s manager Tars Bylhouwer said the increase made the China market important for local tourism.“Port Stephens Tourism has been actively working on the growing Chinese market since 1998 and more Chinese have been visiting our region as a result but we have now upped the ante to tap the huge potential China now represents for us as a result of strong economic growth there,” he said.Mr Bylhouwer added that while the growing market was key to growth, the region would ensure its “eggs are in lots of baskets at the same time” with continued marketing for tourism from New Zealand, America, Europe, Singapore and Japan.“International tourism is an extremely important component of the local industry as inbound visitors tend to come mainly midweek and outside the peak seasons which helps spread tourism income throughout the year,” he added. “There are also significant social and cultural benefits in sharing our piece of paradise with visitors from around the world.” Source = e-Travel Blackboard: N.Jlast_img read more
