The Das Laboratory at University of Houston has two immediateopenings with a flexible start date. One forcomputational/mathematical research and another for experimentalresearch/instrumentation/hardware. Our investigations are rooted ondeveloping innovative imaging techniques for applications likeearly stage cancer detection, materials science, defense andsecurity and geophysics. We combine optical physics,instrumentation, image science algorithms, information theoreticand data science approaches in our research.Possesses, understands, and applies a comprehensive knowledge inarea of specialization. Develops understanding and skills to allowfor completion of assignments that cross fields of specialization.Develops leadership and management skills. Note to CandidatesBoth positions involve close interaction with graduate andundergraduate students and participating in multiple ongoingprojects in the lab. Several industrial and clinical collaborationopportunities exist. Candidates who would like to contribute toboth experimental and computational research are also welcome toapply. In the next stage of our project, there will also besignificantly higher interaction with clinical researchers and withmedical schools.Experimental Research/Instrumentation: Excellent hands ontechnical skills in optical system design/development and dataanalysis is sought. Experience in using photon counting detectorssuch as Medipix and Timepix, x-ray CT system development, otherimaging system development (ultrasound/optical/PET) etc. will be aplus. Excellent programming and quick prototyping skills andadvanced knowledge of Matlab, python, C, C++, etc. desirable.Ability to interact with major equipment manufacturing industriesor national/international labs and collaborations.Computational/Mathematical Methods: Candidate with researchexperience in developing mathematical and computational modelsinvolving forward and inverse problems for imaging modalities(x-ray, ultrasound, optical, or other) are invited to apply. Mostideas will be tested in our laboratory or with a collaborator.Experience working with computational imaging, computational modelsfor x-ray tomography, detector physics and design, phase contrastimaging, statistical reconstruction methods, computational methodsfor ultrasound/Optical/PET imaging would be highly desirable.Physics and Engineering skills to quickly prototype novel imagingideas are a must. Excellent computational skills (Matlab, python,C, C++), quick prototyping of novel ideas, working with highperformance computing, Monte Carlo codes etc. are alsodesirable.
