Today, AEG Presents has announced an exciting 2019 blowout at Red Rocks co-headlined by fan-favorite funk acts The Motet and Galactic. The show, set to take place on Friday, July 12th, 2019, will also feature support from Moon Hooch. With this year’s lineup, fans will get to enjoy a geographical funk cocktail—an appetizing mix of The Motet’s Colorado funk, Galactic’s New Orleans sound, and Moon Hooch’s NYC subway grooves. The Motet has made a habit out of bringing together diverse talent for an early-summer celebration at Red Rocks. This past summer, The Motet teamed with BoomBox and The New Mastersounds for their annual hometown performance on the rocks, where they also welcomed The String Cheese Incident’s Jason Hann and former band member Gabe Mervine to join in. In 2017, the Colorado-native funk collective was joined by 90’s hip-hop heavyweights Jurassic 5 and Bay Area blues/R&B outfit The California Honeydrops. The previous year, in 2016, The Motet was joined by Vulfpeck and Medeski, Martin & Wood for their first-ever headlining play at the amphitheater and their first with the band’s current lineup (Dave Watts, drums; Joey Porter, keys; Garrett Sayers, bass; Ryan Jalbert, guitar; Lyle Divinsky, vocals; Gabe Mervine, trumpet; Drew Sayers, sax). Before that, in 2015, they joined forces with co-headliner Lettuce as well as DJ Jazzy Jeff and Exmag for their Red Rocks affair.INTERVIEW: The Motet’s Dave Watts & Lyle Divinsky Talk Motet On The Mesa, Red Rocks, Bananas Smoking WeedGalactic has also been in the news as of late, as their name has been floated as a potential buyer for Tipitina’s in their native New Orleans after news broke last week that the iconic club’s owner is looking to sell amid legal and financial troubles.
