UWF Volleyball Downs Montevallo for 12th Consecutive Win

first_img Oct. 6, 2007 Box Score  MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Only hours after a hard fought exhausting win at West Alabama, the Argonaut Volleyball team took the court again, this time at the McChesney Center in Montevallo on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons from Montevallo came out smoking, and defeated UWF in game one by a 30-20 score. Montevallo had 21 kills in game one, but the Argos quickly regrouped and changed the momentum for the remainder of the match. UWF won the next three games by a 30-17, 30-14, and 30-22 score.The win moved the Argos to 21-2 on the season, and 6-0 in the conference. Five West Florida players ended up with double digit kills. Luciana Rapach (Jr. / Brazil) lead the offensive attack with 16 kills. Freshmen Chelsea Wilhoite (Jacksonville, Fla.) had 15 kills, and Isabela Gualberto (Sr. / Brazil) added 13 kills. Freshmen Jamie Nichols (Crawfordville, Fla.) supplied the most efficient offense with 10 kills in 15 attempts, and no errors for an outstanding attack percentage of .667. Senior Danielle Spitzer (Birmingham, Ala.) also added 10 kills, along with two blocks. Setter Madeline Gonzalez (Jr. / Puerto Rico) was responsible for spreading the offense around, as she ended the match with a season high 60 Assists.The Argos were outhit in game one by a .633 to .305 margin, but turned the table and outhit the Falcons .385 to .105 over the final three games. The Argo defense was lead by Jerica Carter (Jr. / Gainesville, Fla.) with 20 digs, while Rapach and Wilhoite pitched in with 10 digs each. Carter surpassed Jessica Bragion, who played from 2002-2005, as the All-time UWF career Dig leader, as she now has 1,043 digs.The Argos return home this Tuesday evening to host conference opponent Valdosta State in a 6:00 pm match at the UWF Fieldhouse. The Blazers are 9-13 on the season, and fell to the Argos by a 3-0 score, at Valdosta, Ga., two weeks ago in the opening conference game for UWF. The Argonauts are now riding a 12 match win streak, only five away from the All-time best in UWF history.
