Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Farmers are under the gun right now to reduce production costs for 2017. This has ramifications wide and far-reaching for farm operations and the companies that serve them. One trend that Verdesian Life Sciences is predicting is a potential uptick in anhydrous ammonia use by farmers due to the fact that it’s the lowest-cost nitrogen source. And, as you know, anhydrous continues to be the nitrogen source of choice for many farmers in the Corn Belt. While picking the right chemical to use is one key part of the equation, making you get the full benefit from that chemical is another part. This is where NutriSphere-NH3® comes in. NutriSphere-NH3 from Verdesian is a new product specifically designed to protect nitrogen applied as anhydrous ammonia from being lost through nitrification when applied using the SureFire Ag Systems equipment. The Ohio Ag Net’s Ty Higgins gets more information from Dr. Darin Lickfeldt

Tags:#developers#GitHub#Knowledge Management If you’re not a developer and you’ve heard of GitHub at all, you probably only know it as an online space where developers work together on coding projects—one that’s only useful to the geekiest sector of the population. But GitHub is actually an incredibly useful tool that could be used to organize any group project online. And the day that “regular” people begin adopting it is closer than you think. On Wednesday, GitHub CEO Tom Preston-Werner said normals are welcome to join the party. “We want to make [non-development] use cases possible,” he said at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2013 conference. “Now, we still optimize GitHub for software developers. This is something that’s very important to us. Software is the future of the world.”With a lackluster welcome like that, you could be forgiven for not rushing to sign up for an account right this instant. From a technical standpoint, though, GitHub isn’t at all specific to code projects. It’s open to anyone. If only GitHub made more of an effort to make those others feel more welcome. The World Outside Of CodeWhen you sign up for GitHub, the first thing you do is built an online repository, or “repo”—a storage locker for your current project. You can tuck away any kind of files, from code scripts to blueprints to text documents. You and other collaborators work on these files locally, then upload—or “push”—them to the online repository, logging changes as you do so.That way, everyone in the group can see the latest changes to these files, plus each file’s entire change history. This is called version control.Usually on GitHub, this sort of project focuses on coding a program or building a website. But it doesn’t have to. Imagine a team of lawyers researching a case and using GitHub to upload and annotate legal documents. Or co-authors writing and editing chapters of a book. Or even an online brainstorming session on GitHub, which would be stored and documented far more efficiently than a mess of flustered emails ever could be. Even better, GitHub is especially good at making sure you and your collaborators retain sole ownership of your projects. (See Section F of the Terms of Service.) Plus, while GitHub is lauded for promoting open source, you don’t have to make your own repositories public.GitHub For Knowledge WorkersOn GitHub’s official YouTube channel, trainer Matthew McCullough explains that the tool can be useful for anyone who is considered a “knowledge worker.” A knowledge worker could be a researcher, designer, editor, inventor, creator, or anyone who is involved with creating, editing, or handling information. (Including developers, of course.)Lawyers, writers, journalists, researchers, and academics all fit that mold. So why aren’t non-developer knowledge workers on GitHub in larger numbers? According to Preston-Werner, the problem is the site’s forbiddingly technical approach. “We’ve got a lot of educating to do,” he said. GitHub is built on top of Git, an eight-year-old source-code management tool that most users still manage via a command- line interface, like movie hackers from the 1990s. While technology is certainly a hurdle, it’s not that bad. There are plenty of free tools for learning Git online. Don’t want to bother? No problem. GitHub comes with graphical interface tools that you can download and use without knowing a line of Git.Invite The Non-GeeksThe biggest hurdle to broader GitHub adoption might just be its belief that geeks come first. Preston-Werner is fine with non-geeks using the service, but he’s not going to roll out the red carpet for them. He just wants it to be “possible.”During the discussion, Preston-Werner acknowledged that GitHub is not currently a profitable company. While he didn’t say if profitability is his end goal, I have just the idea to introduce an influx of new adopters to this useful but misunderstood tool—market it as something for everyone. An event meant to honour India’s Olympic heroes turned out to be chaotic. It was an eventful day for London medal winners who hopped from one function to the other, but the felicitation by the Sports Ministry at the National Stadium left a lot to be desired. It had all the makings of a hastily arranged programme without much thought going into it. One wondered why the stadium was not used for the venue, and instead a makeshift dais was put up near the gate. Hundreds of people strolled in without any security checks, making it a nightmare for police officials. Youngsters enrolled in the “Come and play scheme” of the Sports Authority of India and schoolchildren were called to attend the function. Besides, fans got too close to the dais, giving security officials a headache. Many of the athletes who were part of the India’s Olympic contingent had no place to sit and even the coaches were left to rue the mismanagement. Boxers Vijender Kumar and Manoj Kumar left in a huff while the hockey team quietly moved to a corner.”This isn’t the way to organise an event of this scale. We were felicitated after the Commonwealth Games at the same venue but that happened inside the stadium not in an open area like this,” said one of the athletes, part of India’s contingent in London.”It was a completely chaotic function. This could have been a security issue for everyone present here,” he added.Silver medallists Sushil Kumar and Vijay Kumar, bronze medal winners Yogeshwar, Saina Nehwal, MC Mary Kom and Gagan Narang all wore broad smiles as they were greeted by ministry officials. They were later taken in open jeeps to the Amar Jawan Jyoti at Indian Gate where they paid floral tributes to the martyrs. All the while the crowd followed them along with a strong media contingent.advertisementAt the stadium, Maken handed cheques of Rs30 lakh each to the silver medallists while the bronze medalists received Rs20 lakh each. Maken said that the government would continue its support to the athletes under the ‘Operation Excellence’ 2010 scheme.”We aim to win 25 medals at the 2020 Olympics. We will provide all assistance,” he said.A faux pax during the event spelled embarrassment for the medallists. Eyebrows were raised, jokes did the rounds when the master of ceremonies called Saina Nehwal ‘Sania Nehwal’.That was not all. Yogeshwar Dutt was welcomed as ‘Yogendra Dutt’, shooter Joydeep Karmakar was identified as an ‘archer’ and Gagan Narang’s bronze medal changed colour to ‘silver’. The athletes somehow maintained their poise.Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh slammed the ministry. “This is not the way to treat the national heroes and their family,” he told Mail Today. “There was no place to sit. There were four disciplines that earned us medals, but the names of federations were not mentioned,” he said.
A Toronto man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the alleged abduction of a Chinese student, as police said they were closing in on suspects.A massive manhunt remained underway with police working around the clock to find Wanzhen Lu, 22, who was violently taken from an underground parking garage in Markham, Ont., on Saturday. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras. Const. Andy Pattenden with York Regional Police said a 35-year-old the man was arrested in the early hours Tuesday, but has yet to be charged. Police said they remained “very concerned” about the well-being of Lu, who also goes by the name Peter.“Let me make this message very clear to the suspects that are still out there: It’s time to release Mr. Lu unharmed and time to seek legal counsel and turn yourself in,” Pattenden said.Police said Lu was walking with his friend toward the elevator after parking his car at his condominium around 6 p.m. when a black wheelchair-accessible minivan came up behind him.Investigators say three men jumped out of the van while the driver remained behind the wheel, grabbed Lu, shocked him multiple times with a stun gun and dragged him into the van before speeding off.Lu’s friend, a young woman, was not injured in the incident, but was traumatized at what police have called a “brazen” and “violent” attack.Investigators so far have been baffled as to why this has occurred, Pattenden said. They’ve heard nothing from the suspects, including ransom or any other demands. Nor do they have a motive. Those are questions that can be answered once they find Lu in good health, he said.Police found the van Sunday at an undisclosed location in Toronto after a tip from the public.“Our forensic identification unit has been poring through that van to gather evidence,” Pattenden said.Lu’s parents have arrived from China, he said, and are “traumatized” by their son’s abduction.Pattenden would not say whether the man they’ve arrested is one of the four suspects they are seeking. Security images released show three men wearing winter jackets with their hoods wrapped tight to their faces.Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact York Regional Police or call 911.Liam Casey, The Canadian Press
